Sedation Dentistry for Kids

Teeth checkup at dentist's office. Girl patient is anxiety free from sedation option before exam.If the thought of visiting the dentist has your child playing hide-and-seek, Acorn Dentistry For Kids can help! Dr. Tim Richardson knows kids – and he also knows how important regular checkups are.

Whether your child has special needs, a dental phobia or simply has a hard time tolerating needed treatment, we offer several comfort options to help them relax, and even enjoy, their visit to our office.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Adults aren’t the only ones to suffer from anxiety. Especially when faced with a new experience, children can feel nervous or stressed. At our office, we have anti-anxiety “happy pills” that shoo away the butterflies in little tummies. If your child doesn’t swallow pills easily, that’s ok. We also have a liquid version.

There’s no need to show up early for your child’s appointment. Doses are administered at the beginning of the appointment and work quickly. With nearly immediate results, your child’s dose can be tailored for their ultimate comfort age age.

Take A Deep Breath and Relax

At our Silverton and Keizer practices, we also offer nitrous gas sedation to help our young patients feel at ease. Also known as “laughing gas,” this sedation option is administered through a soft nose mask.

With each breath, your child will feel more relaxed, any muscle tension will visibly ease and they’ll feel a warm, floaty sensation. Parents love how it makes the treatment seem to fly by more quickly too.

Laughing gas not only puts a smile on your child’s face, it’s also a great option for…

  • Easing anxieties during the appointment
  • Completing complex or extensive procedures in a single visit, rather than several
  • Special needs patients

The effects of inhaled sedation are temporary, and diminish soon after the dental treatment is completed.

Wake Up To A Healthy Smile

For patients who have great difficulty tolerating their needed dental treatment or how require a large amount of dental work, we also offer intravenous sedation.

This sedative medication is given through an IV, and allows your child to enjoy a relaxing nap while their dental work is being done. You’ll be glad to know that most general anesthesia treatments can be done in the comfort and convenience of our office, with no hospital check-in required. Dr. Richardson is the only IV-sedation pediatric dentist in the area.
